All Electric Extrusion Blow Moulding Machine
November 2009 (3 1)
Once the blow mould is closed, no energy is consumed. Is that possible? Yes, it is. Energy is only required to close the mould and to weld the parison. Once the mould is closed, the power consumption is zero. That means that during the entire blow process no energy is needed to keep the mould shut. The same refers to the other machine movements — namely calibration and carriage. Applying this concept the energy consumption, related to the machine movements only, is reduced by around 70% in comparison to a hydraulic machine. Related to the overall machine consumption, that means including machine movements, extruder drive and heating, a saving of around 30% is achieved. This is only one highlight out of a variety of surprising features of the all-electric extrusion blow moulding machine designed by B&W Blowmoulding Systems. Important is also the fact, that the clamp force is produced by direct drives. The force is directly transferred into the clamp platens without any additional mechanics or lever systems. The electric drives are replacing the hydraulic cylinders and fit into the existing machine concept. The base machine design remains as it is. The mould installation data are unchanged. Using the same machine model (e.g. UMS 4), clients can change moulds between hydraulic, hybrid or all-electric machines without any modifications. The screen pages of the B&R machine controller are unchanged. Thus, the step from hydraulic to electric machines can easily be made by machine operators.
