Food manufacturing company Unilever has recently installed a new SVL 20/30 forming, filling and sealing machine at its plant in Ghana. The machine is designed to form, fill and seal stickpacks for food produce, in this case, margarine. In the Middle East and African markets there is an increasing trend towards to-go food produce, as well as long-life packaging. The new machine will mean that Unilever are now better suited to meet these needs.
The machine produces 36,000 stickpacks per hour with a fill capacity of 20 grams. The machine features a 10-lane design and finishes the stickpacks with a three-sided seal and tear-off edge. The packages are 34 mm in width and approximately 150 mm in length and can be manufactured both as individual packages as well as in chain form. An SLR-S 10 / 34 CIP type rotary valve dosing device with an intermittent servo pendulum drive was installed for accurate dosing. Not only is it precisely matched to product requirements, but it also guarantees meticulous filling accuracy. A filling tube device with a servo-drive that ensures accurate adjustment of the space between the filling tube nozzle and the product filling level during operation is employed for optimum product distribution in the stickpack.
